Simon Dao became a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) in 2022 after learning about CASA in the New York Times. Simon loves being a parent to his 10-year-old son, and the Kids Matter CASA program allows him to make a difference for children who are in foster care as well.
A Commitment to Literacy
CASA volunteers advocate in the best interest of the foster youth they serve, and as a self-employed software engineer, Simon has the flexibility to offer even more opportunities for growth and support. His schedule allows him to devote additional hours every week to tutoring his CASA youth, who didn’t know how to read. After teaching the second grader the fundamentals, Simon is now focusing on helping him thrive in school. CASA Program Manager Lance Jones says, “Simon’s commitment to literacy is incredible. He loves learning and helping others learn, and he strongly believes that all children deserve the freedom and independence that come from literacy.”
Advocacy Based in Faith
When Simon is not spending time with his son or his CASA kids, he is a dedicated runner who leads a very healthy lifestyle and is motivated by his faith. As Lance says, “It is inspiring to see faith in action!” Thank you for your commitment to children, Simon. Kids Matter CASA is lucky to have you!
